How this guide works

The Lower Keys in this guide run from Big Pine Key (Big Pine Key, about MM 29–33) and the No Name Key turnoff through Torch and Ramrod (Torch & Ramrod Keys, about MM 26–28), Summerland Key (Summerland Key, about MM 24–25), Cudjoe and Sugarloaf (Cudjoe & Sugarloaf Keys, about MM 17–23) to Big Coppitt and Geiger (Big Coppitt & Geiger Keys, about MM 9–11), the last residential keys before Stock Island. Big Pine is the service town. The others are quieter islands where a restaurant is a named destination off a bridge, not a strip you browse at highway speed. Bahia Honda (Bahia Honda, about MM 36–38) sits just up the highway from Big Pine and is a state park, not a dining stop.

Nothing here is ranked. Every name links to a KeysCompass page that points back at the operator's own source or the official tourism directory. Inside each group the order is geographic or arbitrary, never sold; Verified source on a listing means stronger source verification, not a paid slot. We do not publish prices, hours, wait times or phone numbers on this page. Those change faster than a guide, so open the listing's source link before you drive. Chains and map-only places stay on the island hubs.

For full lists, use the island restaurant hubs: Big Pine Key restaurants, Summerland Key restaurants, Cudjoe & Sugarloaf Keys restaurants and Big Coppitt & Geiger Keys restaurants. Torch and Ramrod kitchens are on the Torch & Ramrod Keys island page. The Keys-wide grids are Restaurants & Nightlife and Waterfront restaurants. Driving down from Marathon? The companions are Where to eat in the Middle Keys: Marathon, Key Colony, Duck Key and Long Key by Key and type and Where to eat in the Upper Keys: Key Largo, Tavernier and Islamorada by Key and type. Continuing to Key West? Where to eat in Key West, by neighborhood covers Key West and Stock Island.

02

Quick picks by situation

Breakfast before a Looe Key boat or the drive to Key West: Coco's Kitchen or Bagel Island Coffee on Big Pine, Galley Grill on Summerland, Morning Joint on Cudjoe, and Big Coppitt Coffee at the Key West end.

Seafood or a table by the water: Kiki's Sandbar & Grille on Little Torch, Tonio's Seafood Shack & Tiki Bar on Summerland, The Bent Prop Bar & Grill on Cudjoe, Mangrove Mama's on Sugarloaf and Geiger Key Marina Fish Camp Restaurant at the end of Geiger Road.

Takeout on the drive: PizzaWorks, Driftwood Express or Pop's Smoke Shed (Pop’s Smoke Shed — Big Pine Key) on Big Pine, A Slice of Paradise on Summerland. Family table: Boondocks Grille & Draft House on Ramrod or Bobalu's Southern Café on Big Coppitt. After a kayak or a Bahia Honda day: No Name Pub or Boardwalk Bar & Grill on Big Pine.

Quick checklist
  • These are starting points, not a ranking.
  • One sit-down plus one quick backup per day.
  • Confirm the kitchen is open before you leave the beach or the dock.
03

Big Pine Key and No Name Key: pub, grill and barbecue

No Name Key itself is a quiet residential island in Key deer country with no restaurant listings on KeysCompass. The meal people mean by “No Name” is No Name Pub, on Watson Boulevard on Big Pine, on the way to the No Name Key bridge. The listing describes a historic, off-the-beaten-path tavern known for pizza, pub classics and walls covered with signed dollar bills. Getting there means driving residential side roads through deer habitat, so go slowly, especially at dusk.

Avenue A holds two more evening options. Boardwalk Bar & Grill is a neighborhood bar and grill with specialty pizza, local seafood, burgers and pasta; the listing mentions late-night food and scheduled live music. Pop's Smoke Shed (Pop’s Smoke Shed — Big Pine Key) is the Big Pine barbecue stop: brisket, ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken from family recipes. On the highway, The Island's Pancake House Bar & Grill is the room that used to be Big Pine Rooster. It was renamed in April 2026 under new owners, and older maps may still show the old name, so check the current menu on its own site.

Quick checklist
  • No Name Pub is on the Big Pine side; No Name Key has no restaurant listings.
  • Side roads are deer habitat: slow down and never feed deer.
  • Big Pine Rooster is now The Island's Pancake House Bar & Grill.
04

Big Pine Key: breakfast, cafés and delis

Big Pine has the deepest breakfast list in the Lower Keys. Coco's Kitchen on Key Deer Boulevard has been a Big Pine fixture since 1969, with Cuban coffee, Cuban sandwiches, empanadas and huevos rancheros on a Cuban, American and Mexican menu. Bagel Island Coffee in the Big Pine shopping center makes New York-style bagels with Cuban coffee, omelets and deli sandwiches. Florida Keys Café on Overseas Highway is a neighborhood diner for omelets, pancakes and biscuits and gravy.

For a quick bite or a cooler, Island Deli on Avenue A has bagels, breakfast sandwiches, Cuban lunch specials and ice cream. Good Food Conspiracy is an organic market, juice bar and deli open since 1982, with smoothies, vegan wraps and soups. That makes it the obvious stop for a lighter lunch to carry into a park day.

Quick checklist
  • Key Deer Boulevard has a cluster of food stops just off U.S. 1.
  • Good Food Conspiracy is a market plus deli, useful for a park-day cooler.
  • This guide does not publish opening times.
05

Big Pine Key: pizza, sushi, Chinese, tacos and Filipino

PizzaWorks in the Big Pine shopping center does handcrafted pies, subs and calzones, with dine-in, takeout and delivery listed. Driftwood Express on Overseas Highway is a casual dine-in and takeout shop for pizza, calzones, subs and wings. It is not Driftwood Pizza, Pasta & Subs in Marathon (Driftwood Pizza, Pasta & Subs).

For something other than pizza: Forks & Stix on Avenue A makes sushi rolls, poke bowls and sandwiches. China Garden on Key Deer Boulevard is a casual Chinese restaurant. Trianos Taco Company is a taco counter at 30770 Overseas Highway, listed in the official Florida Keys tourism directory, and it is separate from Taco Express on Summerland. Anne's Kitchen is a small food truck serving Filipino comfort food and rotating specials at the Triton Sea Center property. A truck is the first thing to confirm on the day.

Quick checklist
  • Big Pine Driftwood Express ≠ Marathon Driftwood Pizza.
  • Trianos (Big Pine) ≠ Taco Express (Summerland).
  • Food trucks move: confirm Anne's Kitchen before you drive over.
06

Torch and Ramrod Keys: tiki bars and a private island

Torch and Ramrod are easy to overshoot on U.S. 1, so arrive with the map marker set. Boondocks Grille & Draft House on Ramrod is a large open-air tiki restaurant with seafood, burgers and salads, live music and an 18-hole caveman-themed miniature-golf course on the property. Looe Key Tiki Bar & Grill is the canal-front tiki bar at Looe Key Reef Resort, with grill fare and an easy post-dive crowd.

On Little Torch, Kiki's Sandbar & Grille on Barry Avenue is reachable by road or by boat, with a beachside tiki bar, a raw bar and upstairs air-conditioned dining. The Dining Room at Little Palm Island is a different kind of meal: an adults-only private-island restaurant reached by a scheduled motor-yacht transfer from the shore station on Little Torch. Plan it as a booking with the resort, not a drop-in dinner.

Quick checklist
  • Little Torch vs Ramrod: check the island on the listing before you cross a bridge.
  • Boondocks has mini golf; Looe Key Tiki is the resort canal bar.
  • Little Palm Island is adults-only and boat-transfer only—book first.
07

Summerland Key: a short highway strip

Summerland's restaurant list is short and sits along Overseas Highway. Tonio's Seafood Shack & Tiki Bar is a waterfront seafood restaurant with an outdoor tiki bar and live entertainment. Galley Grill is family-run and has served locals and travelers since the mid-1980s, with a large breakfast menu, burgers and seafood specials; its listing links the online-ordering page. Taco Express is a Mexican-American spot with breakfast tacos, birria plates and burritos, and the listing calls it an early opener.

A Slice of Paradise is the long-running Summerland pizza stop for pies, hot subs, wings and calzones to go. Five Brothers Two is a Cuban café, grocery and sandwich shop for breakfast and lunch at 27023 Overseas Highway. It has its own listing, separate from the Five Brothers shops in Key West, and no operator website was found, so use the listing's directory source.

Quick checklist
  • Waterfront dinner: Tonio's. Big breakfast: Galley Grill.
  • Pizza to go: A Slice of Paradise.
  • Five Brothers Two has no operator site on its listing.
08

Cudjoe Key: Square Grouper, the lounge upstairs, steak and the marina bar

Square Grouper Bar & Grill — Cudjoe Key is the original Square Grouper, a dinner-focused room known for fresh local seafood. The listing notes first-come, first-served seating, so plan a backup on a busy night. It is not Square Grouper Islamorada. Upstairs, My New Joint Cocktail Lounge is a cocktail and tapas lounge with a raw bar, small plates, fondues, desserts and live music.

Broil Steakhouse on Old State Road 4A is a locally owned, wood-fired steak and seafood restaurant; check the operator site for which nights it serves dinner. The Bent Prop Bar & Grill on Drost Drive is a waterfront bar and grill beside the marina for happy hour and dinner, and it asks larger parties to get in touch ahead. For mornings, Morning Joint is a breakfast-and-lunch café with sandwiches, waffles, smoothie bowls, its own Colombian farm-sourced coffee and a dog-friendly garden patio.

Quick checklist
  • Square Grouper Cudjoe ≠ Square Grouper Islamorada.
  • My New Joint is upstairs from Square Grouper, at the same address.
  • Broil serves dinner on set nights—check before you drive.
09

Sugarloaf Key: lodge kitchen, a railway-era landmark and the KOA

South of the Seven is the chef-owned restaurant at Sugarloaf Lodge, focused on fresh local seafood and carefully sourced ingredients, from whole local fish to steaks and rum cake. Mangrove Mama's near MM 20 is a long-running Sugarloaf landmark in historic railway-era buildings, with local seafood, steaks and daily specials, a tiki-bar patio and a live-music stage.

The Sugarloaf Key Hotel / KOA campus on State Road 939 has two separate food listings. The Cafe at Sugarloaf KOA covers breakfast, sandwiches and pizza, and The Pub at Sugarloaf KOA is a full bar with food, live music and sports TVs. If you are not staying there, confirm on the operator dining page that outside guests are welcome.

Quick checklist
  • South of the Seven is the Sugarloaf Lodge restaurant.
  • Mangrove Mama's: railway-era buildings near MM 20.
  • KOA café and pub: confirm outside-guest access first.
10

Big Coppitt and Geiger Keys: last stops before Stock Island

Geiger Key Marina Fish Camp Restaurant at 5 Geiger Road is a laid-back waterfront fish camp beside the marina, with local seafood, Keys classics, cocktails and live entertainment; the listing mentions weekend breakfast. It is a side-road drive off U.S. 1, not a highway pull-off. Bobalu's Southern Café on Big Coppitt is a long-running, family-friendly room for Southern comfort dishes, Keys seafood and New York-style pizza, with outdoor seating and live music.

Two Cuban-leaning cafés sit on the Big Coppitt stretch of Overseas Highway: Big Coppitt Coffee for cafecito, café con leche, pastelitos, empanadas and pressed sandwiches, and Rock Key Café for breakfast sandwiches, burritos, Cuban bread and Latin-style coffee. The Purple Porpoise Pub on Coppitt Road is listed in the official tourism directory without a durable operator website. Past here you are on Stock Island and in Key West (Key West restaurants), which have their own lists.

Quick checklist
  • Geiger Key Fish Camp is down Geiger Road, off the highway.
  • Two coffee stops for the last push into Key West.
  • Purple Porpoise has no operator site—use the directory source.
11

Breakfast before the boat or the drive

Looe Key reef trips and Lower Keys flats charters start early, so pick breakfast on the same stretch as the dock, not the one nearest a map search. Big Pine covers the most ground: Coco's Kitchen, Bagel Island Coffee, Florida Keys Café and Island Deli. On Summerland, Galley Grill and Taco Express are the breakfast stops, with Five Brothers Two for a Cuban breakfast sandwich. Morning Joint covers Cudjoe, The Cafe at Sugarloaf KOA covers Sugarloaf, and Big Coppitt Coffee and Rock Key Café are the last coffee before Key West.

Southbound to a Key West check-in, a Big Coppitt coffee is about the last stop before city traffic. Northbound toward Seven Mile Bridge, Big Pine is the last real breakfast cluster before the Marathon list in Where to eat in the Middle Keys: Marathon, Key Colony, Duck Key and Long Key by Key and type. Confirm opening times on each source the night before. This guide does not publish them.

Quick checklist
  • Match the café to the dock or the drive direction.
  • Last coffee before Key West: Big Coppitt Coffee or Rock Key Café.
  • Northbound breakfast backup: Marathon, on the Middle Keys guide.
12

Fish-house and waterfront dinner

Lower Keys waterfront usually means a canal, a marina or the backcountry, not an Old Town sunset pier. Listings that cite the water: Kiki's Sandbar & Grille on Little Torch, Looe Key Tiki Bar & Grill on the resort canal at Ramrod, Tonio's on Summerland, The Bent Prop beside the Cudjoe marina, and Geiger Key Marina Fish Camp Restaurant. For a seafood-first dinner room rather than a tiki bar, the listings are Square Grouper on Cudjoe, South of the Seven at Sugarloaf Lodge and Mangrove Mama's.

If the view matters, ask the operator which tables face the water and whether that seating is indoors, covered or open-air. If you hope to have your catch cooked, ask the restaurant directly; this guide makes no cook-your-catch promises for the Lower Keys. Use Waterfront restaurants for the Keys-wide grid.

Quick checklist
  • Waterfront here is canal, marina or backcountry—confirm the seating.
  • Cook-your-catch: ask the restaurant, not this guide.
  • Seafood rooms: Square Grouper, South of the Seven, Mangrove Mama's.
13

Takeout on the drive

Big Pine is the easiest place to grab food without losing an hour. PizzaWorks, China Garden, Bagel Island Coffee and Coco's Kitchen all list addresses on Key Deer Boulevard near the Winn-Dixie, just off U.S. 1, with Driftwood Express, Trianos Taco Company and Florida Keys Café on the highway itself. Pop's Smoke Shed is the barbecue option. Farther south, A Slice of Paradise and Taco Express are on the Summerland stretch of the highway.

Eat in the car or at the rental, but do not leave scraps at a pullout. Key deer are wild, and feeding them is prohibited. Pair food with fuel: Florida Keys gas stations and EV charging: plan Overseas Highway stops by Key covers where Big Pine fits as the Lower Keys fuel and charging stop, and First-time Florida Keys road trip: overnight pacing MM 100 → 0 covers pacing for the whole drive.

Quick checklist
  • Key Deer Boulevard: pizza, Chinese, bagels and Cuban in one stop.
  • Pack scraps out; never feed Key deer.
  • Combine food, fuel and groceries on Big Pine.
14

Family tables

With kids, an open-air room and something to do while you wait helps. Boondocks Grille & Draft House on Ramrod has the miniature-golf course on the property. Bobalu's Southern Café on Big Coppitt describes itself as family-friendly, with pizza next to the seafood. Driftwood Express and PizzaWorks on Big Pine are the low-stress pizza nights, and Island Deli has ice cream. Bar-forward rooms such as tiki bars and pubs set their own age and evening rules, so check with the operator before you bring a stroller at night.

Quick checklist
  • Mini golf plus dinner: Boondocks on Ramrod.
  • Pizza is the honest tired-family dinner.
  • Bars set their own age rules—check first.
15

After a kayak, a refuge walk or a Bahia Honda day

Inside the park, the Bahia Honda Concession Gift Shop & Snack Bar sells subs, sandwiches, hot dogs and hand-dipped ice cream alongside beach and snorkel supplies. It is a snack bar, not dinner. Book the campsite or plan the day with Bahia Honda camping: Buttonwood, Sandspur & Bayside loops, then eat on Big Pine on the way out: No Name Pub, Boardwalk Bar & Grill or Pop's Smoke Shed for something hearty, or Good Food Conspiracy for something lighter.

After a paddle or a Key deer walk, stay on the stretch you are already on. Big Pine and No Name Key trails point to the Big Pine list. A Little Torch or Ramrod launch points to Kiki's, Looe Key Tiki Bar & Grill or Boondocks. A Cudjoe or Sugarloaf day points to The Bent Prop, Mangrove Mama's or South of the Seven. Evenings here are quieter than Key West, and some kitchens close early or take seasonal breaks, so confirm the time before you change out of wet clothes. The full Big Pine picture is Big Pine Key guide: Key deer, Looe Key, groceries and where to base in the Lower Keys.

Quick checklist
  • The Bahia Honda concession is a snack bar, not dinner.
  • Eat on the stretch you paddled, not across three bridges.
  • Confirm kitchen close times; Lower Keys evenings are quiet.
16

Plan the meal around the day

Save one sit-down meal and one quick backup per day on Trip planner. If you are still choosing a base, Where to stay in the Florida Keys: best base by Key for a 5–7 night trip compares Big Pine and the Lower Keys with Marathon and Key West. Holiday weekends, sunset hours and winter high season fill tables. Late summer and fall bring slow-season breaks (see Florida Keys in October: shoulder season, storm awareness and trip logistics). Re-open each listing's source link the day you go.

Quick checklist
  • One sit-down plus one quick backup per day.
  • Big Pine for range; smaller keys for a named table.
  • Save picks on Trip planner and re-check sources that morning.
