Florida Keys Memorial (Hurricane Monument)

WPA/Art Deco Florida Keys Memorial—also known as the Hurricane Monument—at roughly MM 81.5 in Islamorada. Built by the WPA in 1937, it honors lives lost in the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Visit Florida Keys describes a sculpted tidal-wave and palm relief and notes the memorial houses cremated remains of approximately 190 victims, including World War I veterans.
